Reply To A Toast - China
"...Ethiopia has always maintained that security can ultimately be
attained with the complete destruction of all nuclear weapons and the
prohibition of their further manufacture in a system of general and
complete disarmament. Toward this end, Ethiopia has proposed in various
international forums the signing of a convention prohibiting the use of
nuclear weapons.
Apart from the danger they pose to the survival of man and his
civilization, armaments impose crushing economic burdens on all
countries. They absorb resources wich can be used to promote the welfare
of peoples. Humanity`s interests require that these resources should be
used to promote human benefits rather than lenghten the shadow of
ultimate destruction. We cannot allow the present dangerous situation to
continue in good conscience and without being derelict in our
responsibility to our peoples. ..."
